Oh my gosh y'all!!! The Herb'n Mixtress has finally gotten bitten by the YouTube bug!!! Yes, I now have my very own channel!!!  Well technically i've had it for awhile,  but any who, I'm not gonna bore y'all talking about my underused channel and the video when you can just watch it, subscribe, and tell me what you think about it, and how I can get better, because trust, there will be many more to come!  (I know that was a serious run on, but oh well).

Occupy: The Front Porch

If any of you are friends of mine on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, you have often heard me talk about my front porch.    The place where I escape to to seek solace from the rest of the world.  I've often called it  my sanctuary, for this is my time where I commune with God.  And it is.  It's every bit of that.  A little while ago, as I sat on my porch, I began pondering names for a new business venture that has been occupying almost every crevice of my mind, and "The Front Porch" is what my spirit rested on.  Now I know, that may seem a little bland and lack luster for some, but, the connection I feel with this tiny portion of my home is almost uncanny.  Yet, I revel in it.  Right now, I sit slouched down in one porch chair with my feet planted in the seat of another, typing on my macbook, with a gentle breeze playing in my locs.  I am at home.  I am filled with peace, engaged by clarity.  Out here, I have time to be descriptive in my writing.  My beast mode mentality melts away the moment I get in this space.  Out here, I can restore and recharge.  Out here, I can just be me... on my own terms.  Out here, some of my very best soapy/crafty/creative ideas were conceived.  Out here, on my porch, the world is just right.

Today, I challenge you, if you don't already have one, find your front porch.  It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a place you can go to escape.  A private, quiet place that can be your very own sanctuary.

Say What Nah?!?! Another Name That Soap Contest

Y'all know, i'm always on the move, trying to come up with the next N'awlins type soap, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that i'd eventually do the Frozen Cup thing!  Now i've been meaning to do this for awhile, but if you're not already aware, the Herb'n Mixtress can be one of the world's biggest procrastinators.  But any who,  do y'all remember these from back in the day when we used to go the candy lady and get one for a quarter???  True NOLA nostalgia right there!  These were quite fun to make and they mimic the scents of all of the throwback flavors-- i'm telling y'all, they smell so dag on' good.  From left to right, is Pina Colada, Banana, Cherry, Bubblegum, Margarita & Spearmint.

Now one problem I ran into, when making them is I couldn't figure out what to name them.  In different parts of NOLA, we called them different things.  In the Cut Off (Algiers) where I grew up, we called them Frozen Cups or Cold Cups.  In the 9th Ward, where all my family was, they were known as Ice Bergs, but in the Treme/Uptown area they were Huck-a-bucks.  Hmmm... I need to figure this out before I can list them.   Which brings me to my next "A HA moment".   In typical Herb'n Mixtress fashion, there's only one way to settle this-- with a CONTEST!!!

Then everyone in the winning category will have their name entered into a drawing (I like random.org)

The WINNER will receive a set of SIX (one of each scent).  WINNER will be announced on Friday, July 27, 2012.

Don't Call It a Comeback!!!

Hey Herb'n Villagers!!!  It's been a minute since i've posted, and that's in large part due to the much needed hiatus I took.  Anyone who's ever run a business alone knows the many challenges that can come along with it.  Not to mention having a very demanding, full time day job, three even more demanding children,  the fact that the 2012 Mardi Gras season took a huge toll on me, and a plethora of other things that just come with life.  But, like the beautiful butterfly I am, I'm ready to emerge from my protective cocoon, and get back to doing what I love--SOAP!!!

The only thing better than returning from a hiatus, is a perfectly planned and synchronized return.   After weighing my options, it was a no-brainer to hit the scene during festival season!!!  Sooooo... with that being said,  HDH will be vending in booth #522 of the Freret Street Festival!!!  Say what nah???
